Ève Gascon signs her first victory in the QMJHL





(Gatineau) Goaltender Ève Gascon became the first woman to lead her team to victory in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since Charline Labonté on February 10, 2000.

Gascon helped the Gatineau Olympiques defeat the Drummondville Voltigeurs 7-3 on Friday. On his second start on the Courteau circuit, Gascon made 23 saves.

Labonté was the last woman to play in the QMJHL before Gascon got a start on March 19. Labonté had worn the colors of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for 26 games during the 1999-2000 season, then two games the following season.

Gascon, who is 18, was recalled from the Cégep Saint-Laurent Patriotes to assist Émerik Despatie. Olympiques goalkeeper Rémi Poirier is on the sidelines.

In her first start, Gascon stopped 18 of 23 shots aimed at her in a 5-4 loss to the Rimouski Océanic.

This time, the Olympiques offered him a 3-0 cushion in the first period at the Slush Puppie Centre. They then responded to each of the Voltigeurs’ goals.

Gascon was named the first star of the game and received a warm ovation from the spectators.

Zachary Dean scored two goals, Simon Pinard had a goal and two assists, Manix Landry, Mathieu Bizier and Isaac Beliveau each had a goal and an assist, while Tristan Allard also scored for the Olympiques.

As for the Voltigeurs, Luke Woodworth and Justin Côté each had a goal and an assist, while Tyler Peddle also hit the target. Riley Mercer gave up seven times on 44 shots.

Bennett MacArthur had two goals and an assist, while Logan Chisholm also scored twice and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan defeated the Moncton Wildcats 5-1.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Riley Kidney has four assists for the Titan, which has won 10 of its last 11 games.

Sea Dogs 3 Eagles 2 (fus.)

Philippe Daoust and William Dufour scored in the shootout and the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Cape Breton Eagles 3-2.

Ryan Francis and Charlie DesRoches scored in regulation time for the Sea Dogs, while Nikolas Hurtubise made 31 saves before the shootout. Hurtubise then resisted attempts by Logan Camp and Ivan Ivan.

Mooseheads 3 Islanders 2 (prol.)

David Lafrance scored with 0.7 seconds left in overtime and the Halifax Mooseheads beat the Charlottetown Islanders 3-2.

Elliot Desnoyers and Markus Vidicek scored in regulation time for the Mooseheads, who had won just one of their previous four games. Mathis Rousseau stopped 36 shots in the win.

Armada 2 huskies 1 (fus.)

Mikaël Denis ruled in the fourth round of shootout and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 2-1.

Louis-Philippe Fontaine had given the Huskies the lead early in the second period, but Anri Ravinskis had answered before the end of the engagement.

Ramparts 6 Cataracts 3

Zachary Bolduc and Mikael Huchette scored within 65 seconds late in the second period and the Quebec Remparts raced to a 6-3 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Martin Has reduced the lead to just one goal in the third period, but William Rousseau closed the door, then Pier-Olivier Roy and Olivier Coulombe added insurance goals late in the game. Rousseau stopped 28 shots.

Tigers 2 Borers 3

The Val-d’Or Foreurs scored three goals in the second period and won 3-2 against the Victoriaville Tigres.

Jérémy Ste-Marie, Jérémy Michel and Nathan Bolduc scored on the Foreurs’ push. Frédéric Cousineau kept the fort at the other end of the ice by stopping 25 shots during the game.
