Some Ukrainian cities have been wiped off the map. This is the case of Izioum, south of Kharkiv: after weeks of fighting, only ruins remain.
Around Izium, south of Kharkiv and in eastern Ukraine, towns and villages have been reduced to nothing. Only a few beasts venture through the rubble and the destroyed dwellings. A devastated resident walks through the ruins of the family home. “He is erasing the population, maybe to try to scare people away, to destroy Ukraine permanently“, laments Mykola Shaposhnyk, resident of Hrushuvakha. A school located in Barvinkove was also destroyed by Russian strikes.
“Look around you, that’s what they call liberation. Look, it’s the same in all the villages“, condemns Oleksandr Balo, another Ukrainian resident. In Izium, a large part of the city was destroyed after two weeks of intense fighting. According to the mayor, 20,000 people are still trapped inside the city.
