The decisions taken by local elected officials suggest a record increase in property tax. In Tours, in Indre-et-Loire, the bill should rise by almost 15%.
An announced increase in the property tax could further restrict the purchasing power of the French. In Tours (Indre-et-Loire), it was to increase by almost 15%, a first since 2015 for the city. The inhabitants are resigned. “Everything increases. You have to know what Tours will do next to use our property tax wisely”says a passerby. Rental values, which are used to calculate the property tax, have soared. Largely linked to inflation, they increased by 3.4% in 2022, a record for more than 30 years.
The town hall of Tours also voted an additional increase of 11.5%. “We have a city that has been chronically under-invested for years, even decades. It invests 40% less than other cities in the same stratum. (…) The objective was to put us back on average, and to renovate our heritage, which greatly needs it”explains Frédéric Miniou, deputy mayor of Tours (Indre-et-Loire), delegate for finance.
