In the context of the war in Ukraine, several countries have still not chosen sides, such as Turkey, Israel or India. The 20 Hours looks at these countries in a new episode of the “Power Issues” section.

In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, some countries have still not come out in favor of Russia or Ukraine. For Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, neutrality may seem surprising: up to 70% of India’s military arsenal comes from Russia. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is also trying not to upset Moscow. Russia is indeed present militarily in Syria, a country bordering Israel. Thus, the country did not join in the sanctions against Moscow.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also did not join Western sanctions against Russia. Close to the two belligerents, the country seeks to occupy a role of negotiator in the conflict, according to a specialist. The war could benefit Dubai, which is seeing an influx of Russian oligarchs targeted by sanctions. Finally, China still claims to want a de-escalation of the conflict.
