From the beginning of the 94and Oscar ceremony, Sunday, Dunes collected its first prizes, including the best artistic direction, which rewards Quebecer Patrice Vermette.
Dunes by Montreal director Denis Villeneuve received the second most nominations with 10 in total. The film won four during pre-release at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Ben Proudfoot from Halifax won Best Documentary Short with his film The Queen of Basketballabout Lucy Harris, the only woman to have been drafted by the NBA.

A first Oscar for a first nomination
The Oscar for Best Supporting Actress went to Ariana DeBose for West Side Story.
Ariana DeBose won the Oscar on Sunday night for her acting, singing and dancing as Anita in her breakthrough role in Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of the classic musical.
She becomes the first Afro-Latina and openly LGBTQ actress to win in the category.
