Miami Open | Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov eliminated in the second round

(Miami) Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov both suffered elimination in the second round of the Miami Tennis Open on Saturday.

The Quebecer lost the flag in two sets of 6-4 and 6-2 against the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic. The 48^and world player needed just one hour 27 minutes to dispose of his 9-ranked opponent^and.

Auger-Aliassime struggled to create rhythm with his serve. He won only 53% (31/58) of rallies when he was served compared to 73% (43/59) for his rival.

The Montrealer was notably the victim of four double faults, unlike only one on his opponent’s side.

Auger-Aliassime, 7^and seed, suffered a second setback in as many clashes against Kecmanovic. The Serb had won the only other clash, which occurred in 2019 at the Cincinnati Open.

In the round of 16, the Serb will face the winner of the duel between Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas and American Sebastian Korda.

Early in the evening, Ontario’s Denis Shapovalov suffered the same fate as his compatriot, losing in two sets of 6-3 and 6-4 to South African Lloyd Harris. The duel was even more expeditious than that of Auger-Aliassime, requiring only one hour and 19 minutes.

Shapovalov struggled on serve, committing six double faults. Harris broke her serve three times in the first set, then twice more in the second set.

The only other representative of the Maple Leaf who walked the field in Miami on Saturday is Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski.

She and her Mexican partner, Giuliana Olmos, defeated the pair of American Sabrina Santamaria and Russian Lidziya Marozava in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

The pair, seeded sixth, will continue their journey in the round of 16 against Germany’s Laura Siegemund and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva.
