In Camon, Emmaüs collects nearly a thousand euros for Ukraine

Hands in the pile of second-hand clothes, Daniel and his wife are looking for clothes that suit them. These Toulouse tourists have passed a curious head at the Emmaüs store in Camon. This sale for the benefit of Ukraine decided them to take a bag of clothes: “It is true that _the fact that it was for Ukraine motivated me_. Otherwise we don’t really need, on the contrary, we have the car which is full, we are ready to leave“.

A late but still useful initiative

In Picardy, many initiatives have already made it possible to send aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict. Is this last still useful ? Daniel is convinced:I think that’there will be need, even afterwards if we are lucky that it stops quickly. It will be even worse because then we will discover a lot of things, and they will need a lot of help.“.

Hind, she is of the same opinion: “It’s never too late to help his next. In my company, too, we collect crops, in particular to help women in difficulty, with hygiene products, etc. We have already sent a lot of things, every week we fill out a good box that we send“.

Money instead of clothes

If this collection is a little later than the others, it is because Emmaus volunteers had first planned to send clothes. But the Ukrainians have already received more than enough. Hence this plan B, explains Delphine, manager of the solidarity shop: “_Today it’s more money they need_, in particular to rebuild their city afterwards. The clothes, the medicine, now that won’t be of much use to them. Money will always help“.

It’s easier to send money than materials these days. Like this at least they can target their real needs“, confirms the head of the Emmaüs de Camon community, Pascal Orillard. Nearly €1,000 was raised in this way according to Emmaus. “We have Emmaus communities in Poland and Ukraine, so the money will be sent directly there, to help people who really need it.“. The benefit of this day will be integrated into a larger sum, determined in the following days by the board of directors of the Emmaus community of Camon.
