The campaign, dubbed “Act for Ukraine”, will try to convince politicians, artists and businesses to donate money to support humanitarian efforts in the country invaded by Russian troops.
The whole thing will culminate in a large gathering that will take place on April 9 on social media. The event will be hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Everything will be organized in partnership with the organization Global Citizen.
The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has provoked in this country the worst humanitarian crisis in Europe since the end of the Second World War.
In a statement released by Trudeau’s cabinet, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the international community on behalf of his war-displaced citizens. “Everyone is invited to participate: musicians, actors, athletes, businessmen, politicians, everyone. Everyone who wants to join this movement and ‘Act for Ukraine’,” said Mr. Zelensky.
Mr. Trudeau and Mr.me von der Leyen met this week in Brussels on the Canadian prime minister’s second trip in as many weeks to Europe to confer with the allies on the Russian attack.
