Almost a month after the start of its offensive across Ukraine, the Russian military announced its decision to focus on Donbass. The sign, despite the Kremlin’s rhetoric, of a war to which the Russian troops seemed unprepared.
On its 30th day, the conflict may be taking a turn. The Russian army declares that the first phase of its offensive in Ukraine is over and that it will now concentrate on the east of the country. The deputy to the Russian chief of staff, Sergei Roudskoy, announced it, without however acknowledging the slightest difficulty. The war continues and, according to the Kremlin, everything is going as planned. “Initially, we did not plan to storm cities, in order to minimize the losses of soldiers and in the civilian population. But sometimes it turned out to be necessary. We can see that the special operation is going successfully, which allows us to concentrate the bulk of the efforts on the main objective: the liberation of Donbass“, did he declare.
So far, Russia’s main advances have been in the east and south of the country, but no cities have yet been conquered. The Russian military may not have been well enough prepared: dozens of unencrypted radio transmissions were verified and exposed by The New York Times earlier this week. They reveal a Russian army with logistical problems and communication failures.
