“The judges were not seated in the right place”, according to Bouchard

“The judge who was 97-93 against me, he must have been looking at a beautiful girl in the stands, because he definitely didn’t see the same fight as me.”

Sébastien Bouchard’s draw (19-2,-1 8 K.-O.) in his first fight in over a year left a bitter taste in his mouth. The judges’ records were 93-97, 96-94 and 95-95. After a slow start to the fight, the boxer from Quebec is convinced that he deserved a better fate against Ricardo Lara (22-9-1, 10 KOs).

The Mexican turned his head several times from the 6and round, when Bouchard kicked him. The Quebecer believes that his opponent wanted to disqualify him.

“Lara didn’t want to fight at the end,” said Sébastien Bouchard. You could see it clearly Looked like the guy who wanted to hit him in the back of the head, but he kept turning […]. After four rounds, my coaches told him to get in his boots and get him over the cables.”

“I won a round in the first six and the whole end of the fight, said Bouchard. You can calculate that however you want, it’s six to four for us. The judges were not seated in the right place.

Disappointment

The 34-year-old pugilist would have liked to be more physical from the start. He wanted to beat his opponent by keeping him at a distance, before changing his mind in the second part of the fight.

“I’m going to mince my words, but I think I could easily have saved myself with the victory,” said Bouchard. […]. We were surprised by Lara’s speed at the start. The atmosphere was great. I would have liked to deliver a better start to the fight.

An incredible feeling

For her part, the Trifluvienne Marie-Pier Houle (6-0-1, 2 K.-O.) was in control from start to finish against Valentina Keri (5-6, 0 K.-O.).

“In the first and second round, I received a straight line that reminded me that it would be a good idea for me to raise my hands, launched Houle with a laugh. I then tried to attack him in the body and I am happy with the turn of events.

Houle received a standing ovation from more than 2,500 spectators before his fight. She will not forget this moment.

“The feeling of the crowd was incredible,” exclaimed the 31-year-old woman. After boxing behind closed doors a month ago, I found myself in front of a raging crowd. I’m really happy and I hope people will continue to answer the call.”

Houle wants to face a quality pugilist for his next fight: Kandi Wyatt.

“It’s a girl from Alberta who lost a World Championship fight recently, informs Houle. She was suspended. So I couldn’t face him on Friday. That’s next on my list.”

Quebecers Alexis Barrière (5-0-0, 4 K.-O.) and Petar Gavrilovic (2-0-0, 0 K.-O.) also savored the victory during the gala organized by the Yvon Michel Group ( GYM) in Trois-Rivières.
