do your spring sowing

From February-March, you can start your seedlings by keeping them warm in the house. Roland Motte, our gardener assures you that it is too easy.

Nature is wonderful, a small seed no bigger than that is capable of giving you a tomato plant with fruits that will make you crack all summer long. And this little thing will give you a tree more than 20 meters high. Incredible ! Roland Motte, the gardener of France Bleu Sud Lorraine and France Bleu Besançon, gives you the best tips for preparing your seedlings.

To plant, you need:

  • seeds purchased during the year or collected from the garden last year are even better,
  • containers,
  • soil, -a special soil for seedlings-,
  • watering can
  • and lots of attention.

In nature, seeds sprout in the spring when the soil warms up, light arrives and conditions are favorable. By installing them now in potting soil, these small seeds will give seedlings and then the plants we want.

First find small containers suitable for growing seedlings. Then, fill them with this famous soil for seedlings, -it is not too rich, but it is very light-, and will be suitable for accommodating the very small roots of these seeds. Put the seeds on the surface, sprinkle with potting soil to cover them and tamp lightly. If the seed is a little big, you can make a small hole with a pencil.

Water the seedlings well

Leave the seedlings warm in the house, in front of the window or in a greenhouse, and water before the soil dries out. When the plant has grown in the spring, it will be ready to be installed in the garden or in a window box. The seeds can be germinated from February or March, warm, under cover, in the house or in the greenhouse. And afterwards, we can sow them in the direct garden.

Hey, that’s too easy. Even I get there.
