Through ten ten-minute episodes, the drag queen Barbada invites young children to discover music in all its forms with the new Tou.tv show in her name. Dance, song, lyrics, instruments: everything is explored with the host and her guests, including Klô Pelgag, Les Louanges, Ariane Moffatt and many others.
In a theatrical and abstract setting, Barbada, embodied by music teacher Sébastien Potvin, experiences an adventure at the start of each episode. Whether it’s chasing away a bad dream, helping a plant grow or baiting a bird, music always seems to be the answer. According to its misadventures, the children will be able to discover an instrument or a type of song, just like the history which hides behind these. In addition, the colorful Barbada character helps make these capsules interesting and captivating for toddlers.
The show takes the classic style of children’s shows like Bagpipe Where Master key, both in terms of direction and animation where the fourth wall is broken. With this and the use of puppets, the show can quickly become too childish for children aged 8 and up.
Nevertheless, Barbados remains an interesting tool for the youngest who want to be introduced to music. They will meet a plethora of Quebec artists with multiple talents while discovering instruments and songs as fascinating as the charango or the yodel.
