Kavinsky returns with a new album and the desire “to start again on something new”

It’s the story of a hit, Nightcall, released in 2010, almost confidential, and which explodes a year later, thanks to its use in the credits of the film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, signed by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn.

Carried by the tube – which to date has nearly 500 million streams – as well as flagship songs like Roadgame Where Oddlook, used in commercials or TV shows, Kavinsky’s album dubbed OutRun released in 2013. An eternity.

After this overwhelming success, Vincent Belorgey alias Kavinsky felt the need to take a break. A break that lasted nine years. “Success is always nice. Frankly, those who say it’s too much to bear are not being very sinceretells the producer to franceinfo. No, it’s very pleasant, it’s just that it’s hard to leave after that. I went out a lot less, I traveled a lot, I love to drive so I often left, all week long, with my car and my dog.

“I didn’t want to make music. Not at all.”

Then the confinement gave him back the desire to create. “The fact of being isolated, without wanting it and without knowing it since I left for the weekend when I learned that we were confined for two months [avec l’épidémie de Covid-19], it was very beneficial! “he admits.

Kavinsky is therefore back with the 12 pieces of reborn. He kept this sound and visual universe strongly inspired by the science fiction films of the 1980s, such as tron Where Highlander. His music now wants to be fuller, more orchestral, and more sung too, this time with a minority of strictly instrumental pieces.

“People discovered my music through Above all. Before, I did a lot of instrumentals. So there was a real wish to do something new, to start again with something new. So I collaborated with singers”he explains.

With the singles Renegade and Zenith presented as an aperitif – including already some remixes – and a fine gallery of guests like Sébastien Tellier, reborna true revival of Kavinsky, is already shaping up to be a soundtrack for next summer.
