The federal government will allocate an additional $2 billion to the provinces to help them deal with the backlogs accumulated during the pandemic in surgeries.
“These delays don’t just impact people’s health in the short and long term. They also have an impact on the stress of families and their loved ones, [ainsi que sur celui] of our health personnel who are at the front,” said Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos on Friday, opening a press briefing at the University of Ottawa.
He specified that this additional envelope will be paid as a one-time payment under the federal health transfers to the provinces and territories.
He is joined by Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and Kamal Khera, Minister of Seniors.
