William Nylander gives the Leafs victory in overtime

(Toronto) William Nylander hit the target on the power play at 3:43 into overtime and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Thursday night.

John Tavares scored the other goal for the Maple Leafs, who posted a fourth straight victory.

Jack Campbell turned back 24 pucks for the Torontonians. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner both had two assists.

Patrick Maroon allowed the Lightning to take the lead in the first period, but the Tampa Bay team were unable to close the books.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 32 shots for the Lightning, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

Tavares tied the game with just 41.1 seconds left in the game. He completed a staging of Marner and Matthews, after Campbell was pulled in favor of an additional player.

In overtime, Tavares broke away and was hit with a stick from Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman. On the power play, Nylander unleashed an accurate receiving shot to score his fifth goal of the campaign.
