The City of Brossard will regain its police station, after several years of requests to do so.

“The upcoming opening of three REM stations, the fact that the City of Brossard is booming and that we will soon cross the threshold of 100,000 inhabitants are all factors that militate in favor of the establishment of a police on our territory. Moreover, all Quebec cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants have a police station,” said Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad in a press release.
Thursday, the Longueuil agglomeration council will give the public security commission the mandate to study different scenarios for the establishment of the future police station. The mandate has already been discussed at the agglomeration mayor’s table and submitted to the elected officials of their respective municipal councils.
“More than a simple building made of concrete or bricks, the Brossard police station will have to allow better coordination of our teams in the field, in order to offer even more efficient services to citizens, in the pursuit of implementation of our policing philosophy of consultation and proximity with the population,” says Fady Dagher, director of the Longueuil agglomeration police department (SPAL).
The SPAL will have to determine the best places to establish the police station as well as the form it will take. He will present different scenarios to the members of the Public Safety Committee in the coming weeks, before presenting a formal project that can materialize in the coming years.
The Mayor of Longueuil, Catherine Fournier, maintains that it is time to settle files that have dragged on for too long due to political conflicts inherited from the era of mergers and demergers.
“The question of a police station in Brossard has been discussed for 20 years. In just a few months after the arrival of the new agglomeration council, we are finally giving a clear direction in this direction,” she says.
