Half-naked Ukrainians, humiliated in public, sometimes beaten and tied up with adhesive tape. These videos, posted on social networks, number in the dozens. For some Internet users, these civilians are victims of reprisals because of their pro-Russian sympathies. But is this the case?

The people tied up are not accused of being pro-Russian. The authors of these punishments accuse them of being looters. On a video, three people are tied up by other men, in military fatigues and civilian clothes.

The France Télévisions teams geolocated the images: they were shot in Irpin, Ukraine. The video appeared on social media on March 9, but Spanish TV aired it a week earlier. The journalist who produced the report specifies that the alleged looters remained in the same position between one and two hours, before being detached.

Not all those attached are accused of being looters, however. A shopkeeper in Dubno was also humiliated in public for allegedly selling alcohol, which martial law prohibits, according to local media.
