This is a case that could cause a lot of harm to Canet Roussillon Football Club. Currently seventh in its National 2 championship, the club is now suspected of having declared false cases of Covid-19 in its workforce for avoid a trip to Haute-Loire. Canet RFC was to play against Puy Foot 43 Auvergne on February 5th. But a few days before the meeting, the leaders of Canet report the presence of several cases of Covid-19 in the team and provide the necessary certificates. The game is then postponed.
Quickly, however, doubts appear on the veracity of the certificates provided. Some would not correspond to the players supposed to be sick. Alerted, the French Football Federation has decided to open an investigation to shed light on this case. The club, which was informed of the opening of the instruction last week, is invited to provide explanations. Several players were also heard. Visibly embarrassed, the Canétois leaders prefer not to speak publicly for the moment. Radio silence also on the side of Puy-en-Velay which awaits the results of this federal investigation. A report is due in the next few weeks.
If the fraud is proven, the Canet RFC risks a lot. Match lost on green carpet, fine, withdrawal of points, etc…: the battery of sanctions is wide. It will ultimately be up to the Federal Disciplinary Commission to decide.
