The Catholic religious order that operated some federal residential schools for Aboriginals in Canada says it will open its archives to researchers in Rome.

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate have agreed to grant the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation full access to their archives in the Italian city.
The Centre’s chief archivist is expected to make a first visit to the archives this spring.
Records may include letters from missionaries to rulers in France and Rome.
The Oblates say this is an important commitment before the indigenous delegation in Rome meets with Pope Francis later this month.
In a joint press release, the Center and the Oblates affirm that a truthful account of the history of residential schools is an essential foundation for the healing of survivors, their families and their communities.
