After the announcement of the death of Yvan Colonna, on the evening of Monday March 21, rallies took place in Corsica in Bastia and Ajaccio, Tuesday March 22.

Following the announcement of the death of Yvan Colonna, on the evening of Monday March 21, high school students and students gathered spontaneously, on the morning of Tuesday March 22, in front of the prefecture of Ajaccio (Corsica). They paid tribute to Yvan Colonna: “Yvan martyr”, could we read on a banner. “It’s a symbol of the history of Corsica, so you have to be here to be able to demonstrate against the state”explains one of these young people.

Yvan Colonna died on Monday March 21 at the age of 61 in a hospital in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). He had been transferred there urgently after a violent attack at the prison of Arles (Bouches-du-Rhône) at the beginning of the month, where he was serving his sentence for the assassination of the prefect Erignac in 1998. He had been beaten and suffocated by an Islamist prisoner. For several years, Yvan Colonna had been asking for his rapprochement in Corsica.
