COVID-19 report | Seven deaths, 41 more hospitalizations

COVID-19 is felt more strongly on Tuesday, as hospitalizations undergo a marked increase in Quebec, at a time when the number of new cases is on the rise again in the province. It also lists seven additional deaths linked to the virus, while vaccination is still slow.

These seven new deaths bring the daily average calculated over seven days to 10. The trend is thus down 15% over one week.

On Tuesday, there was an increase of 41 hospitalizations linked to the disease in regular care, which stems from 100 new hospital admissions and 59 discharges. To date, 1,043 patients with COVID-19 therefore remain hospitalized in Quebec, 46 of whom are still in intensive care, a decrease of two cases in 24 hours in this regard (four entries, six exits).

For the time being, the 1,043 people hospitalized still represent a balance sheet 4% lower than it was last week. In intensive care, the 46 patients also represent an even greater drop of 30% compared to last week.

Generally speaking, however, Québec is getting closer and closer to the point of balance between entries and exits. This means that the number of people hospitalized should thus stabilize shortly, or even increase in the coming weeks.

The authorities also reported 1,383 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the daily average calculated over seven days to 1,231. The trend is thus up markedly by 15% over one week. However, it should be remembered that these figures are much less representative due to the limits imposed on screening for several weeks now.

Last Sunday, Public Health carried out 11,778 screening tests, a relatively stable figure compared to the weekly average. The positivity rate is currently 11.3% province-wide.

So far, nearly 115,300 rapid tests have been “self-declared” on the platform of the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), the vast majority of which, i.e. nearly 90,575 of them, presented a diagnosis positive for COVID-19.

On the vaccination side, the Quebec campaign continues to slow down. On Monday, just 3,800 additional doses of vaccine were administered. If 49.8% of Quebecers received three doses, only 3800 people per day come to get their booster dose. To date, 86.7% of the general population has one dose, and 82.8% of Quebecers have two doses.

Including those vaccinated outside the province, the province has still administered 18.8 million doses since the start of the pandemic.
