The Kia EV6, based on the 100% electric E-GMP platform, is arriving on our roads. Although it shares the same technology as the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the EV6 offers a sportier approach.
“Aesthetically it is completely different from the Hyundai IONIQ 5 […] It is a vehicle that is lower, much more streamlined and more aerodynamic,” explains columnist Antoine Joubert. He goes on to say that the EV6 can travel slightly longer distances than the IONIQ 5 at least, “on paper”.
The entry-level version uses a 58 kWh battery which gives it a range of 373 kilometres. The engine drives the rear wheels and produces 168 horsepower.
By opting for the larger 77.4 kWh battery, consumers can choose between rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The respective ranges are 499 and 441 kilometres. Antoine mentions that these drop to 300-320 kilometers in winter conditions.
Convincing drive
“The car offers a more incisive drive than the side of the IONIQ 5,” he says. Antoine also cites that the EV6 offers sportier handling thanks to its lower center of gravity and steering precision.
However, the columnist notes lower visibility than the IONIQ 5, since the glass surface is less important. He also adds that the rear window is very narrow.
“The interior environment of the Kia EV6 is completely different from that of the IONIQ 5. [Les deux] use the same mechanical and electrical technology. Corn […] the design side is completely different”.
Antoine appreciates the aesthetic treatment of the dashboard as well as the ambient lighting. On the other hand, he notes an irritant for taller people. The seats cannot lower far enough.
