The former mayor of Marseille between 1995 and 2020 Jean-Claude Gaudin, tried on Tuesday March 21 from 2 p.m. in Paris for “misappropriation of public funds by negligence” in the case of overtime at the town hall of the city, will plead guilty, learned France Bleu Provence from the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF).

While Jean-Claude Gaudin was mayor of the Marseille city, around 800 agents were paid for overtime that they did not work and justice suspects the former elected official of having been negligent in respecting the law . The latter initially denied the facts, before finally choosing to plead guilty.

This admission of guilt by Jean-Claude Gaudin may allow him, despite a conviction, to avoid the sentence of one year in prison and a 15,000 euro fine that he incurred. According to France Bleu Provence, the former elected official will negotiate his sentence with the PNF. This admission of guilt will also allow Jean-Claude Gaudin to avoid a two-week hearing during which his management would have been publicly displayed.
