The Liberal MNA for Acadie, Christine St-Pierre, will leave politics at the end of her current mandate and will therefore not seek a new mandate in the October 2022 elections.
The Montreal elected official must make the announcement in front of her activists on Monday evening, in the company of the leader of her party, Dominique Anglade.
Mme St-Pierre pursued a career as a journalist at Radio-Canada, where she was notably a correspondent in Quebec, Ottawa and Washington. Elected under the Liberal banner for the first time in 2007, she was Minister of Culture from 2007 to 2012, then Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie from 2014 to 2018.
After the representative of Anjou–Louis-Riel, Lise Thériault, then the deputies Gaétan Barrette and Francine Charbonneau, Christine St-Pierre becomes the fourth member of the Liberal caucus to announce her departure from politics at the end of the present mandate. Pierre Arcand, Kathleen Weil, Carlos Leitão and Hélène David are among the elected Liberals who still cast doubt on their political future.
Since 2007, Christine St-Pierre has represented the riding of L’Acadie, a liberal castle located in the north of the island of Montreal. It has always had the favor of a large majority of voters during the polls. In October 2018, she won 54% of the vote, far ahead of her rival caquiste, who had seduced 17% of the electorate.
