France Télévisions journalist Jean-Christophe Galeazzi details the dynamics of candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who now hopes to win the votes of as many left-wing voters as possible.

Clearly ahead of Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot and Fabien Roussel in the polls, Jean-Luc Mélenchon wants to rally all of this electorate for the first round. But he does not want to deny anything of his project, explains the journalist from France Télévisions, Jean-Christophe Galeazzi. Three months before the election, already, he assured that the difference would be made in the duration of the campaign. Three weeks before the first round, the candidate of the Insoumis now benefits from favorable polls and a dynamic for a month and a half now. He is even at 13% of voting intentions in the latest Ipsos poll for franceinfo, with an increase of one point.

He now firmly believes in qualifying for the second round, for his third, and probably his last, presidential election. In 2017, he failed at the gates of the second round, with 600,000 votes. At the time, he also benefited from very strong momentum in the last weeks of the campaign. But this time he must outrun five competitors from the left and deal with the presence of the communist Fabien Roussel. He now hopes to establish himself as the vote “effective” to the left.
