This is one more sign that shows that the Covid-19 epidemic has experienced a rebound in recent weeks, in Gironde as in the rest of France. In an internal email, the management of the Bordeaux University Hospital announced thata cluster was spotted on the site of the Saint-André hospital since the end of last week. Fifteen caregivers tested positive on Tuesday, November 2 in a unit dedicated to infectious diseases. This concerns nine paramedical personnel, six medical personnel. Nine patients were also infected, while they were hospitalized for other reasons. Management specifies that these 24 positive cases are all doubly vaccinated. No serious form has yet been identified.
In addition to screening the staff of this unit, all the professionals from a neighboring service were also tested, as were the employees occasionally intervening in the services (physiotherapists, social workers, dieticians, etc.) and the caregivers who came in. reinforcement to counter the resumption of the epidemic. Ten beds are now closed in the ward, and no patient will be accepted until the beginning of next week at least, explains the management. To compensate for the absence of fifteen health personnel in this internal medicine unit, four beds were closed in the neighboring unit to allow the teams of the two services to pool each other.
Reorganization of transfers from emergencies
A reorganization of patient transfers from the emergency room is also underway. Until the beginning of next week, they will be spread over other departments of Saint-André hospital, but also on other sites and establishments in Bordeaux Métropole. All patients who have been in this service since the weekend of October 23-24 will also be identified and notified of the cluster.
The hospital ensures that sufficient protective equipment will be available for caregivers. In another internal email, the management calls the nursing staff of the CHU to reinforce barrier gestures especially during meals, and to be administered the third dose of vaccine. Certain spaces such as the canteen will also be redeveloped.
