Frenchman Pascal Martinot-Lagarde won the silver medal in the 60m hurdles at the Indoor Worlds on Sunday in Belgrade, a race dominated by American Grant Holloway.
Holloway, who had equaled his world record in the semi-finals (7”29), won in 7”39 ahead of Martinot-Lagarde (7”50) and the American Jarret Eaton (7”53 ). This is the second podium for the Blues in these World Championships after Cyréna Samba-Mayela won gold in the 60m hurdles on Saturday.
Martinot-Lagarde, European champion in the 110m hurdles in 2018 and 3rd at the Worlds in 2019 in Doha, once again demonstrates that he is a formidable indoor competitor since he won his 4th indoor world medal, the 3rd in silver after 2014 and 2016. He finished 3rd in 2012. He also stood on the podium of an indoor Euro four times, winning gold in 2015.
The big disappointment on the French side came from Wilhem Belocian. The 2021 indoor European champion had been impressive in the series and then in the semi-finals but he collapsed in the final, finishing 8th and last (7 sec 67).
Holloway set the record straight for him after the disappointment of the Olympics. The 2019 world gold medalist in the 110m hurdles, 2nd performer of all time, arrived as the big favorite but was beaten in Tokyo by the Jamaican Hansle Parchment.
