In return for a hope at the mound | Luke Voit traded to the Padres

(Tampa) First baseman Luke Voit was traded from the Yankees to the San Diego Padres 24 hours after the New York team formalized its new two-year pact with Anthony Rizzo.

In return, the Yankees got Justin Lang, a 20-year-old right-hander, 34and overall pick in the 2020 draft.

Voit, the 31-year-old right-handed power hitter, led the Majors with 22 homers in the shortened 2020 season, while batting .277/.3338/.610 with 52 RBIs.

He was, however, plagued by various injuries last season which resulted in his name being placed on the injured list four times. In 68 games, he averaged .239/.328/.437 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.

The Yankees acquired Rizzo from the Cubs at the trade deadline.

Lange went 0-3 with a 695 ERA in nine starts last season at the rookie level. He struck out 29-15 in 22 innings.
