Russian artillery fire killed at least 21 people and injured 25 on Thursday in the town of Merefa, near the besieged city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, the regional prosecutor’s office said.

“Russian servicemen fired artillery at the town of Merefa in the Kharkiv region around 03:30 (local time) on Thursday. A school and a cultural center were destroyed. 21 people were killed and 25 injured, 10 of whom are in serious condition,” the prosecutor of the Kharkiv region announced on his Facebook account.
The town of Merefa is located about thirty kilometers southwest of Kharkiv.
“The rubble clearing is in progress,” according to the prosecution, which published two photos of buildings gutted by explosions.
