After two difficult editions against the backdrop of Covid, the Festival Cinéma d’Alès association organized a 2022 edition worthy of the event. For his 40th birthday, Itineraries saw things big with more than 200 films screened, feature films (including many previews), documentaries, short films, tributes, meetings and more than a hundred guests announced. A rich program that will delight festival regulars.
“Our desire is to share our passion, which is this cinema open to the world with obviously this common thread which is itinerancy. It’s a festival (…) with meaning, and which wants to give meaning to cinema. It can be pleasure, happiness, sadness, a more philosophical, more political reflection, but it’s always films with meaning“, confides Julien Camy, the president of the association Festival Cinéma d’Alès.
On the occasion of this 40th anniversary, the organizers created the Roaming prices and wished to reward for all of his work a director particularly appreciated here: Tony Gatlif. The gypsy filmmaker will therefore be the festival’s guest of honor with the screening of eighteen of his films, including two short films, meetings with the public, a concert and an exhibition of his storyboards at the media library of the town.
“It was a way for us to celebrate a guest who is a traveling companion of the festival, and to mark the occasion. And it’s an author, Tony Gatlif, who resonates a lot, we’ve already received him three times in Alès, his filmography, his work resonates a lot with the title Itinérances, with our themes: travel, musical travel, so it was quite naturally that we leaned towards him, that he said yes very quickly. It’s going to be a highlight and a way of marking the occasion“, explains Antoine Leclerc, general delegate of the Festival Cinéma d’Alès association.
