the solidarity hair salon Tête en l’air calls for volunteers

A solidarity hair salon opened in Saint-Nazaire on March 7 in the station area. Mounted by the association Cape Solidarity and the network of merchants committed to the association on Carillon which helps the poorest, the project obtained 10,000 euros in subsidies from the Department. A salon where the poorest do not pay, open 2 and a half days a week. A haircut, a shampoo, it seems like nothing, but it’s a luxury and for the beneficiaries, that means a lot.

“We get pampered, we chat and we come out with fishing, it boosts morale” explains with a smile Chaïma, 73, who, with her little pension of 800 euros per month, must also provide for the needs of her grandson. “A shampoo, a cut, a color, sometimes it doesn’t take much to feel confident, regain your dignity and, for example, go to a job interview.“, explains Philippe Hamache, secretary of the Carillon. “A lady I was doing broke down in tears at the end when she admitted to me that she hadn’t looked at herself in the mirror for 5 years” says Sophie Robert, director of a hairdressing salon in Saint-Nazaire and linchpin of this project.

I appeal to all the hairdressers and hairdressers of the peninsula. If everyone could donate one day a month” – Sophie Robert

But if the salon was able to open, will he survive? 4 hairdressers to cover 2 and a half days at Tête en l’air, that’s not much. Vania is one of these volunteers. She is hairdresser at home and decided to dedicate all his Mondays to the most precarious. “It’s much more than aesthetics, it’s almost therapeutic. And when you see the smiles, it’s worth all the gold in the world”said the young woman with delicate and gentle gestures. “We have our salons, our other clients, we work 6 days a week, in the long term, it’s not sustainable”alerts Sophie Robert who launches a call to all hairdressers and dressing tables of the peninsula. “One day a month. That’s all I’m asking for. It would allow us to organize a rotation and to perpetuate our solidarity fair”.
