On Wednesday March 16, the Minister of the Interior raised the possibility of Corsica becoming autonomous. But what does that imply?
In an interview with Corsica Morning, Wednesday March 16, Gérald Darmaninpaved the way for autonomy for Corsica. In France, few territories have an autonomous status: New Caledonia and French Polynesia. Moreover, the Minister of the Interior mentioned the possibility of giving Polynesian status to the island of beauty. French Polynesia is competent in economic and social matters, school education, health, equipment and the environment. On the other hand, all sovereign missions (security and public order, justice, foreign policy and defence) remain in the hands of the state.
For their part, the Corsican nationalists want to have power in the fight against land speculation, taxation and economic development. Until now, Emmanuel Macron had always refused to accede to the demands of Corsican nationalists.
