Brel and Barbara in duo
Actors-singers Julie Daoust and Renaud Paradis, accompanied on the piano by Philippe Noireaut, revisit the work and life of two sacred monsters of French song with their show Brel & Barbara, fragile heroes, presented three evenings at the Rideau Vert. On the program: songs, of course, but also theatrical scenes and the presentation of sound archives that will provide a better understanding of the little-known friendship relationship that existed between the Lady in Black and the Grand Jacques. There is no false profession at the Cinémathèque
The Cinémathèque québécoise announces the addition of two additional screenings of the feature film There is no false profession, most recent work by independent filmmaker Olivier Godin. The film tells the story of Marie-Cobra (Tatiana Zinga Botao), a young woman writing the screenplay of a poet tasked with defusing bombs. Around her revolve astonishing characters. It presents itself as a “playful and delirious tale with unexpected twists”. Saturday at 5 p.m. and Monday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Free evenings at Nuits d’Afrique
Nuits d’Afrique is celebrating its 35th anniversary this week with the presentation of free shows at Club Balattou. Thursday evening, place the zouglou, with the formation Tajoa, from the Ivory Coast. Friday, kora evening with Zal Sissokho and his group Buntalo. Later, meeting with Jab Djab, pioneer of world music. Saturday, Nuits d’Afrique is celebrating bossa-nova with Jean-François Léger. Artist Gotta Lago, from Ivory Coast, also takes the stage with his guitar and drums. Finally, Sunday, meeting with Ilam, from Senegal, specialist in afro blues and pop sounds, and Nomadic Massive, flagship group of Montreal hip-hop.

This is a second edition for the Accents Queer literary cabaret, featuring LGBTQ + feathers of all kinds (chronicle, poetry, slam), tackling equally varied themes. Face-to-face at the Janine-Sutto Culture House this Friday, from 7:30 p.m., we are expecting Jean-Paul Daoust, Kama La Mackerel, Chris Bergeron, Valérie Bah, Éric LeBlanc as well as Samuel Larochelle, creator and host of the evening. The recording of the show will then be broadcast on the web, between May 11 and 21.

Seven years after the suicide death of comedian Robin Williams, the Planète + channel presents a documentary devoted to the life of this actor, also known for his work in comedies (Mme Doubtfire, Good Morning, Vietnam) that dramas (The Society of Missing Poets, Will Hunting). This film by Tylor Norwood gives voice to several relatives of the comedian, including his wife Susan Schneider, who discusses the last moments in the life of this man struggling with Lewy body dementia, a degenerative brain disease impossible to diagnose. Canadian singer and international jazz star Holly Cole is at the Palais Montcalm in Quebec City this Thursday, a show that can be seen live across Quebec thanks to the webcast. She will perform there the pieces that appear on her album live Montreal, recorded in 2019 during the Jazz Festival, and will be surrounded by a group of four musicians, including pianist Aaron Davis, member of the famous Holly Cole Trio.
