Top 14 players from Stade Français and Biarritz Olympique will test a “concussion helmet” for six weeks. Proposed by a Swedish company, this helmet is placed on the head of the player after a shock, and for an hour it circulates a cooling liquid on the head. Tests should check if this really reduces the effects of shock: headaches or immediate memory loss.
Neurosurgeon Emmanuel Ellie, from the Center Hospitalier de la Côte Basque (CHCB) will follow this testing phase. But for him, the main thing is prevention, the measures taken in recent years such as the ban on high tackles or double tackles have proven their effectiveness.
