Henry Burris joins Lions coaching staff

(Vancouver) Henry Burris is back in the Canadian Football League.

He joined the BC Lions coaching staff as an offensive advisor.

The former quarterback spent the last two seasons on the Chicago Bears staff, serving as seasonal assistant coach (2020) and offensive quality control coach (2021).

Moving to the Lions, Burris found himself reunited with Rick Campbell, who served as head coach of the Ottawa Redblacks from 2014-2019, winning the Gray Cup with Burris at quarterback in 2016.

The 48-year-old Burris played in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders (1997-99, 2005-11), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2000, 2003-04), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2012-13) and the Red and Black (2014-16). The American from Oklahoma also spent two seasons in the NFL, with the Green Bay Packers (2001) and the Bears (2002).

A two-time CFL MVP, Burris has won three Gray Cups, being named the Ultimate Game MVP twice, in 2008 and 2016.

Burris threw for 63,369 yards (third most in history) and 373 touchdowns in addition to adding 5,653 yards rushing and scoring 68 majors. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
