Several yachts owned by Russian oligarchs have been seized in recent days. They are targeted by European and American sanctions.
Italian police seized a yacht in the port of Trieste (Italy) on the night of Friday March 11. Considered one of the biggest in the world, it is 143 meters long. Its value is estimated at 530 million euros. It is owned by Andrei Melnichenko, a Russian oligarch who made his fortune in coal and fertilizers. He is judged to be close to the Russian government and targeted by European and American sanctions.
At the beginning of March, still in Italy, two yachts of oligarchs had also been seized. Another was immobilized in the port of La Ciotat (Bouches-du-Rhône). This hunt continues on social networks: Internet users publish the locations of these boats. The Solaris, owned by Chelsea football club boss Roman Abramovich, has been identified in the port of Tivat, Montenegro. It is sometimes difficult to trace certain yachts of these Russian oligarchs, because these goods are not always held in their own name.
