Brian Boyle, Danton Heinen and Zach Aston-Reese all scored to take weight off Sidney Crosby’s shoulders, Tristan Jarry stopped 41 shots and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 on Sunday.

Crosby scored in an empty net to reach 20 goals for the 14th time in his career.

The Penguins beat the Metropolitan Division leaders for the first time in three attempts, largely due to rare offensive production from the team’s supporting players in recent weeks.

Brett Pesce and Sebastian Aho shone the red light for the Hurricanes, who were down for only the second time in the last 12 games (9-2-1).

Antti Ranta stopped 18 of 20 shots in the direction of the Hurricanes net.
