(Washington) Former US President Barack Obama announced on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 after mild symptoms but said he felt “well”.

“I just tested positive for COVID-19,” he tweeted. “I had a rough throat for a few days, but otherwise I feel fine.” His wife Michelle Obama received a negative test, he said.
“Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and to have received a booster dose,” added the former Democratic president, calling for vaccination “even if the cases drop” in the country.
The number of detected COVID-19 contaminations has dropped drastically in the United States in recent weeks, with around 40,000 daily cases in recent days, compared to up to 700,000 at the peak of the Omicron wave in mid-January. The number of deaths is also falling.
The American health authorities thus largely relaxed their recommendations on wearing a mask at the end of February.
