A restaurant owner from Béarn returns to France with 19 Ukrainian refugees

“We are all exhausted”. It was from Germany that we had Didier Hoog by telephone this Saturday afternoon. This restaurateur from Ozenx-Montestrucq near Orthez left last Wednesday with his wife Sabine, heading for the border between Poland and Ukraine. They left with three vehicles, including that of a taxi company.

On the spot, he was able to recover 19 refugees. “It’s a real misery that happens there, but they are happy to leave”, explains Didier Hoog. He adds that “the worst is yet to come”. He explains in Poland, the reception centers, especially in Warsaw, are overwhelmed and need, among other things, medical equipment and camp beds.

Once back in France, Didier Hoog will organize the accommodation of these refugees in host families. He is in contact with several associations.
