A new medical center opens onto the Orleans metropolis. It is in Olivet, second city of the department, in the Larry district. It is located near the Archette clinic and the tram line, the RD 2020 and the CHRO.
Larry’s medical home is located on the ground floor of a new building. The work has just ended, over 620 m2 it will accommodate 15 practitioners including 4 general practitioners, a midwife, a psychologist, two pulmonologists and 6 nurses. They haven’t all arrived yet.
Doctors take on new patients
“What is interesting is that three of these doctors arrive without a patient base.“explains Maxime Taffoureau, director of the health center at Olivet town hall. They will therefore fill in their appointment books as they go along and accept people who cannot find an attending physician.
This is the case of Catherine, “my 86-year-old mother hadn’t had a doctor since September, hers left without having a replacement, I called everyone in the yellow pages but none had room. I am relieved to be able to find one in that Larry’s medical home, “she said.
“Neither do I, I no longer had a doctor” Explain Thierry, “I knew that the medical center was about to open, I came ten days ago it was still under construction, today I am reassured, I need medical follow-up for respiratory problems , there are also pulmonologists, it is very good “, but he adds “I’m afraid it will be full quickly“.
Olivet with its 22,000 inhabitants had only 12 general practitioners, far from the ratio of 1 doctor per 1000 inhabitants. In this structure of Larry, 4 new general practitioners settle down including three are truly new doctors in the town, in other words, they have no patients yet.
A project launched 4 years ago
“This is what we wanted “ explains Maxime Taffoureau, the director of the health center at Olivet town hall, is delighted to see the culmination of this project launched more than four years ago. “It takes time to find the right place easily accessible by public transport, it was necessary to build and then find the practitioners “.
The town hall of Olivet disbursed 1.6 million euros for this new equipment which therefore also accommodates several specialists. Some are settling for the first time as a liberal.
This is the case of Delphine Litière, the young midwife originally from Orléanais, is impatient to start her consultations. “I wanted to be in a nursing home for be able to interact with colleagues on our patients, for me it was very important “. In the office next door, Anne Worms, the psychologist arriving from the Orléans hospital, talks the same about the importance of teamwork.
This Larry medical center is therefore welcoming its first patients this Friday. The first general practitioner will consult from november 15th, another to arrive at early December and the next two in January. Knowing that the objective is to find a fifth, as quickly as possible. The town hall of Olivet is still looking for a specialist and if possible given the needs, a geriatrician.
The Larry medical center is located 10 rue du Docteur Chapelet. There is no receptionist on site, each practitioner manages their own telephone appointments, which are also taken on the online platforms, doctolib and maiia.
