An American journalist was killed and another wounded by bullets on Sunday March 13 in Irpin, on the northwestern edge of the Ukrainian capital Kiev. The two men were hit while driving with a Ukrainian civilian, also injured, told AFP a doctor engaged with the Ukrainian forces, who took care of the victims. An AFP journalist saw the body of the slain journalist, identified as Brent Renaud. Kyiv’s police chief also confirmed his death in a series of Facebook posts on Sunday.

Brent Renaud was initially identified as working for the New York Timesas he was wearing a press badge from the American daily at the time of his death. “Although he collaborated with the Times (most recently in 2015), he was not on assignment for one of our services, explained the newspaper in a message posted on Twitter a few hours after the announcement of his death. This badge was issued for reporting many years ago.” the New York Times said to himself “deeply saddened” of the death of Brent Renaud, “a talented documentary filmmaker”.
