In I Love America, Sophie Marceau interprets the character of Lisa. She decides to change her life by leaving Paris for Los Angeles, after the departure of her children and the death of her famous mother, absent throughout her life. In California, Lisa reunites with her best friend Luka (played by Djanis Bouzyani), who has made it big by setting up a famous drag queen bar. Luka makes it her mission to help Lisa revive her love life, which has been extinguished for too long, by creating a profile for her on a dating site. Between awkward meetings and an unexpected affair with John (Colin Woodell), Lisa understands that the real meeting is with herself, if she manages to forgive the one who was her first love… her mother.
This synopsis is close to the lives of Lisa Azuelos, daughter of Marie Laforêt (who died on November 2, 2019 at the age of 80) and Sophie Marceau, mother of two children (Vincent Zulawski and Juliette Lemley, 26 and 19, born from previous relationships with Andrzej Żuławski and Jim Lemley). The two young adults have also left the family nest.
