The quaint village of Wakefield, in the Outaouais, is full of gourmet stops, and Bluebarn Coffee Roasters is certainly no exception. Housed in a completely renovated building that over the years has housed a car garage, the fire station and the municipal library, the café serves the best espresso in town.

In fact, the reputation of Bluebarn Coffee Roasters extends well beyond the borders of the Outaouais: “We distribute our coffee in several specialized coffee shops, it’s a big part of our business – we sell it as far away as Montreal. and Toronto, says co-owner Luc Alary. In fact, we put half of our energy into commercial roasting and the other half into our coffee shop in Wakefield. We did this because we wanted more face-to-face with our customers. There is such a rich history behind our coffees, I love having time to communicate that with our customers, inform them of our passion and our relationship with the producers. »

Luc Alary has been roasting his coffee since 2016, sourcing directly from producers in Colombia, El Salvador and Honduras. “We buy our coffees according to the seasons, in normal times, we offer between 8 and 12 varieties, explains the one who is also a filmmaker-documentary maker for the Canadian Red Cross. We will also receive many soon, because it is currently the harvest season. »
The café currently offers a limited menu of pastries and sandwiches to accompany its excellent coffees, but Luc Alary reveals that he is working precisely to improve the gourmet offer of his establishment. “We are starting new major renovations to create a large kitchen where we used to roast coffee,” says the Wakefield resident. We are going to build a new roastery, next to the current building, on the neighboring land that we have just purchased. We will therefore be making significant changes to our menu over the next six weeks. We have also hired a chef who will prepare a full menu for us, with evening service. When the snow has melted, it should be there! “It promises, because we also have to enlarge the terrace, which is already said to be superb!
