In the wake of a report commissioned from the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas), Olivier Véran presented, Thursday, March 10, a “2022-2025 critical care roadmap” to public and private hospital federations, according to a statement.

Among the decisions announced by the Minister of Health, 1,000 additional intensive care beds will be opened from 2023, “an unprecedented reinforcement of the medical and nursing teams”, tweeted Olivier Véran. They will be divided between 500 beds “which had been closed for lack of staff” and 500 beds “post-resuscitation rehabilitation care”, the statement said. The Brittany, Pays-de-Loire, Guyana and Mayotte regions will be given priority because they are under-resourced.

Among the other decisions announced by the Minister of Health, a “rise in ratios” at “one nurse for four beds, day and night” over a five-year horizon has been confirmed in intensive care units. That “represents approximately 2,800 full-time equivalents”which will be declined in the next regional health projects that the regional agencies (ARS) will deploy from 2023, said his cabinet.
