The war in Ukraine officially began two weeks ago and this dragging conflict is playing out both for Zelensky’s troops and those of President Putin, according to a retired major general.

“We end up with a war of attrition that could tip the balance on the Ukrainian side, but we have to remain realistic and realize that the Russians have a lot of depth,” says Richard Blanchette.
Initially, Vladimir Putin would have thought that his army would easily have been able to control the main cities of Ukraine.
“There would be documents that would have been found, but I have no proof of this, that President Putin expected three to four days of maneuver,” said the former major general.
Ukraine is a big country
Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, if you exclude the western part of Russia, and such territory is extremely difficult to take, according to this former member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the morale of the Russian troops decreased because it’s very difficult for this army to go into Ukrainian territory, especially with young soldiers,” he said.
