Two young men from Montreal and Laval have just been arrested by the Gatineau police, in connection with fraud committed against a total of seven victims. They will now face a series of criminal charges.

Jedeson Fabien-Samson, a 20-year-old Montrealer, and Yani Noël, a 21-year-old Laval resident, were both arrested in the last few days by the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG).
The latter had issued a “warning” to the population almost a year ago, in March 2021, concerning a fraud scheme observed on its territory “which involved fake employees of financial institutions and bogus Canada Post letter carriers”.
The fraudster first indicated to the victims “that fraud would have been made on their debit or credit cards”, before asking them “to give them to a person who will pick them up at their home”. This accomplice was then “presented as an employee of Canada Post or a colleague of the financial institution he claims to represent”, explained the authorities.
A broad investigation was immediately launched. In the weeks that followed, citizens finally contacted the Gatineau police with relevant information, which eventually led to these recent arrests. These therefore put an end to a police procedure of more than a year.
According to the first information gathered, the two accused are not directly accomplices. They would indeed have rather “committed their larceny separately”, indicated the SPVG. One thing is certain: several counts have been filed against the two men with the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) for each of the two men.
First, Jedeson Fabien-Samson, who had only one victim, is accused of committing fraud under $5,000, attempting to commit fraud under $5,000 and stealing a credit card. Yani Noël, he would have made no less than six victims. He is accused of possessing stolen property worth less than $5,000, and committing fraud over $5,000.
They will appear before a judge at the Court of Quebec “in the weeks to come”. However, no date has yet been set.
