One euro is now the price of train journeys between Cherbourg and Valognes. The objective : simplify the daily lives of users and limit the circulation automobile. #TheyHaveTheSolution

This is a measure taken before the soaring fuel prices but which is timely. In Normandy, since March 7, thehe train journey between Cherbourg and Valognes now costs 1 euro. The objective is to simplify the daily lives of users with an attractive subscription. That also allows them to use the train and the bus as they wish and thus make small savings.

Valid for one hour, this single-fare ticket is the result of an initiative by the community ofagglomeration of the Cotentin and the Normandy region. Its aim is above all to encourage 1,200 motorists, who go back and forth every day between the two Channel towns, to take the train instead of the car. “We hope for a very strong increase in the use of the train. 20% of our fellow citizens in the Cotentin do not have a car” says David Margueritte, president of the Cotentin conurbation.

Once in Cherbourg, the 1 euro ticket also gives access to the entire local public network, buses or trains. “There are means of transport allowing access to companies, hospitals”, explains Pierre Dumont, president of the Union of users of Paris-Caen-Cherbourg. “People shouldn’t get stuck when they arrive in town!

Since the end of August, bus connections have been multiplied by 6. To further facilitate journeys and continue the initiative, the agglomeration will set up more than 500 on-demand transport stops this summer.r the entire territory of the Cotentin Urban Community.
