A mask for whom? | The duty

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been asked to wear the mask to protect others around us. This is because the mask filters out the droplets that we exhale. On the other hand, with the exception of a perfectly fitted N95 model, it does not filter the air we inhale very well. But if all wear the mask, all protect each other.

From next March 12, we will be allowed to drop the mask in public places. Allowed, but not required, “if we wish to keep it for our own safety”. Yet, if the mask protects others, it is those others who should keep the mask on for “our own safety.” What does all this mean then?

Let’s just say that the authorities chose to give in to public fatigue, stop hoping for full vaccination and consider a thousand hospitalizations a day the new normal. […]
