The New York team defended their home brilliantly during this first leg duel.
Maximiliano Moralez and Santiago Rodrigez both scored in the space of just six minutes to propel their side to a comfortable victory.
Manuel Antonio Gamboa had equalized only five minutes earlier, threading the needle following a corner kick.
From the 29th minute, Valentin Castellanos had launched hostilities by redirecting the ball with a header towards the back of the net, leaving Kevin Moscoso speechless.
Sounders in the driver’s seat
In Seattle, the Sounders gave themselves a more than comfortable lead by defeating the Mexican team Club Leon by the score of 3-0.
The crowd favorites enjoyed a brace from Fredy Montero in the first half. He first scored on a penalty in the 31and minute, before completing a play by Cristian Roldan, eight minutes later.
Jordan Morris gave his people a serious cushion just before the final whistle, more precisely at the 90and minute, when he beat the opposing goalkeeper.
