There are no jobs reserved for men! France Bleu Provence, in partnership with Afpa and Pôle emploi, honors women in construction trades on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day.

6:27 a.m. – David Monge from Pôle emploi: more training for women in the construction industry

The construction industry is a dynamic sector with a 34% increase in recruitments in 2021 and 11,000 recruitments in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
The most sought-after trades are: mason, building electrician, plumber-heating engineer, carpenter and driver of public works machinery.
In 2021 Pôle Emploi financed 2,700 training courses in the construction sector with only 8% of women.
David Monge construction expert and Director of the La Garde agency explains that Pôle emploi encourages women to position themselves in these trades and thus promotes diversity. In addition, it responds to a demand from companies that are looking for qualified professionals in the construction industry.

6:44 a.m. – Denis Puillandre: With Afpa, construction trades are accessible to all

From the plumbers’ training space, Denis Puillandre explains that the Afpa encourages women to come and train in building trades to meet the needs of businesses in the region. Afpa professionals offer women the possibility of discovering the realities of construction trades through immersion. The objective is to show them that construction trades are suitable and can be exercised by everyone.

7:27 a.m. – Michel Garcia: in public works there are no obstacles for women

The regional federation of public works (FRTP) represents 4 billion works for 40,000 employees and 900 companies. Today women are represented at 26% in management positions and less than 1% on construction sites. For Michel Garcia, FRTP General Secretary, there are no obstacles for women to come and work on construction sites and currently all companies are looking for qualified employees for both management and field jobs. Public works are team jobs and when women are part of it, it brings real added value.

The artisanal confederation of small construction companies (CAPEB) represents 550,000 companies at the national level. For Martine Bo, Secretary General of CAPEB Var, the role of women is very important: “whether they support their entrepreneur spouse, whether they are employees or business leaders”. However, only 12% of construction jobs are held by women…There is therefore considerable room for manoeuvre. CAPEB carries out communication operations aimed at women to promote women’s building trades.

10:27 a.m. – Anissa Bendaoud, soldier, is training at Afpa to become a works supervisor

After a career as a soldier in the French Navy, Anissa chose to begin her professional retraining at the Afpa in Toulon to become a works supervisor. She chose the construction industry to keep some adrenaline in her job while maintaining job security in a sector that is constantly recruiting.

4:17 p.m. – Chantal Castel from Constructys: training to encourage a mix of jobs

Opco Constructys participates in the promotion of trades in building, wood and public works by financing training in its sectors. Chantal Castel, Regional Director DR Paca-Corsica, explains that Constructys also supports companies in recruiting and supporting employees. For many years, Opco has been promoting the integration of women in the construction industry by reaching out to them. In addition, Constructys offers to become a construction materials consultant. It is aimed at those who do not have a diploma but who are interested in the profession because it is part of an operational preparation for collective employment (POEC). This training part is provided by the Afpa and is obviously also aimed at women.

4:27 p.m. – Eve Guarnierie: the Noël Béranger Company is recruiting female electricians

Mixity in the construction sector is a real wealth because it offers the possibility of being complementary on construction sites and in offices through the pooling of ideas. Eve Guarnierie, manager of the Six Fours branch for Noël Béranger, explains that the company is currently recruiting for all positions and in particular in trades requiring electrical skills.

5:27 p.m. – Mathilde Roux: the NGE group is feminizing all its professions

NGE, the 4th French group in the construction sector, builds and renovates infrastructure and buildings, employing 14,500 women and men. Today NGE has 11% of women in all of the professions offered and aims to make the professions, the teams in the field and the management functions on the worksites as feminine as possible. Mathilde Roux Project Director INFRANET and NGE (New generation of entrepreneur (Mixed) explains that his company has set up an “NGE Mixité” network to carry out various actions. The group recruits in more than a hundred professions construction workers in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

The Afpa offers an intensive 13-week program for young people between the ages of 16 and 18 who are neither in employment nor in training and who wish to find their professional path. Marie-Hélène Fages – Manager of Ferronnerie Delrène, a sector that awaits women

Delrène ironwork produces steel or aluminum structures to equip apartment buildings in particular. Over the years, the company has recruited women to work in their metal parts manufacturing workshops and also in support functions. For women there are no longer any difficulties, the workstations are fitted out and the sector is completely accessible to women.
